The image of a cabin represents his birthplace. Because Lincoln’s family was poor, and no one could have predicted his later importance, the actual cabin is long gone. Therefore the design is based on the “symbolic cabin” displayed at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site in Kentucky. The other designs show Abraban taking a break to read a book, the young lawyer lincoln in front of the Illinois state capitol and a Lincoln-free image of the half finished U.S.Capitol dome as it looked during his time in office. These four coins-produced with today’s standard mix of 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper-are intended for genernal circulation. The Mint also relwased five collectible coins that sell for more than their face value . Specialeditions of the four penny designs were produced with the metal content used in 1909:a mix of 95 percent copper and 5 percent tin and zinc . Passage Two

This story began about 10 years ago. I was coming out of a very bad marriage. For seven long years my husband spent his every waking moment telling me just what was wrong with me. When I finally asked for a divorce, he answered by telling me that I would never find anyone to love me because I was just so unattractive. This went on for about two years. One night one of my friends convinced me to go out with her. We went to a nightclub and that ’s when I met him.

Clint was playing a game with a girl. I sat in the corner watching him. I did n’t feel that I had whatever it took to get up and mix with others because of my self-esteem problem. Finally I got up the courage to order a drink for him. When he got it, he gave me the most dazzling smile. We spent the rest of the evening talking until I realized that it was almost morning. I figured that he was simply being nice to me because I had brought him a drink, but the next day he called and told me that he could not stopping thinking about me and that he wanted to meet my kids too.

(81) About 3 months later, my divorce was final and Clint sat my boys down and asked them if it was all right with them if he asked me to marry him because he could not imagine life without the three of us anymore. I was so touched that he went to my boys and asked for their approval because they were the ―men of the house ‖ at the ripe old ages of 2 and 4. They said yes and we have all been together even since. Clint gave me and my boys a second chance at a wonderful life. (82) Not a day goes by that he doesn ’t tell we are the best thing that ever has happened to him and that he loves us.

Passage Four

I hear many parents complaining that their teenage children are rebelling. I wish it were so. At young age you ought to be growing away from you parents. You should be learning to stand on your own two feet.

But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are a1l taking the same way of snowing that they disagree with their parents. Instead of striking out on their own, most of them are clutching at one another’s hands for reassurance.

They say they want to dress as they please, but all of them wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music ,but all of them end up huddled round listening to the same record.Their reason for thinking or acting in this and that way is that the crowd is doing it. (84)It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the popularity wave and go his or her own way. These days every teenager can 1earn from the advertisements what a teenager should have and be. And many of today ’s parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of their children. (85)All this adds up to a great barrier for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path. But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don ’t care to share at once with your classmates. Well ,go to it. Find yourself. Be yourself. Popularity will come-will the people who respect you for who you are. That’s the only kind of popularity that really counts. The author ’s purpose in writing this passage is to tell _____.

13.Passage FiveAs my train wasn't due to leave for another hour, I had plenty of time to spare. After buying some newspapers to read on the journey, I made my way to the luggage office to collect the heavy suitcase I had left there three days before. There were only a few people waiting, and I took out my wallet to find the receipt for my case. The receipt didn't seem to be where I had left it. I emptied the contents of the wallet, and railway-tickets, money, scraps of paper, and photographs fell out of it; but no matter how hard I searched, the receipt was nowhere to be found.looked at me suspiciously as if to say that he had heard this type of story many times and asked me to describe the case. I told him that it was an old, brown-looking object, no different from the many cases I could see on the shelves. The assistant then gave me a form and told me to make a list of the chief contents of the case. If they were correct, he said, I could take the case away. I tried to remember all the articles I had hurriedly packed and wrote them down as they came to me.After I had done this, I went to look among the shelves. There were hundreds of cases there and for one dreadful moment, it occurred to me that if someone had picked the receipt up, he could have easily claimed the case already. This hadn't happened fortunately, for after a time I found the case lying on its side high up in a corner. After examining the articles inside, the assistant was soon satisfied that it was mine and told me I could take the case away.Again I took out my wallet: this time to pay. I pulled out ten-shilling note and the "lost" receipt slipped out with it. I couldn't help blushing and looked up at the assistant. He was nodding his head knowingly, as if to say that he had often seen this happen before too !The writer had plenty of time to spare as his train__________.
