7.Friends become a child’s chosen family. If his social life is going well, he gains confidence. If he has trouble connecting, it hurts and can make him feel sad and withdrawn and lonely.1.Help your child communicate. Naturally outgoing kids have an easier time expressing their interest in other children than shy ones do. But you can help build this skill through practice. Ask your child about his favorite games and toys. Praise him for specifics when he shows interest in other people:” You were so nice to let Roger talk about his little dog. I am proud of you.”2.Keep play short and sweet. Parents should keep early play date short, so no one gets too tired and everyone has fun. Schedule the next one soon after that, so kids can quickly build on their comfort foundation.3.Know your child. If your child is bossy, tale with him and agree beforehand on which toys will be shared and which ones should be put away because your child just can’t seem to share them. If you have a shy child, match him with a younger child so he has a chance to be the leader.4.Help your child help others. Encourage your child to be a better friend by helping him include others in play. If you see someone being excluded, don’t ignore it. This is an opportunity to work on your child’s ability to understand others. “Rachel is being left out. That must make her feel very sad. Can you think of a way to include her in the game?”5.Help your kids help themselves. If your child is the one who’s being ignored or treated badly, teach him to speak up.Which word can best describe a child who is good at connecting?

8.It’s interesting that technology often works as a servant for us, yet frequently we become a servantto it. E?mail is a useful tool but many feel controlled by this new vehicle. The averagebusinessperson is getting about 80 e?mails per day and many feel that about 80% of the messagesin their “In Box” are of little or no value. So, I have four suggestions to help you to become better at “Easing E?mail”.1.Get off the lists. The best way to deal with a problem is to never have it. If you are receiving a lotof unwanted e?mails, ask to be removed from the various lists. This would include your inclusionin unwanted “cc” lists(抄送名单).2.“Unlisted address”.Just like getting an “unlisted” telephone number that you share only withthose whom you want to give direct access, you might want to get a separate e?mail address onlyfor the important communications you wish to receive.3.Check it once or twice per day. Many I speak with are becoming chained to their email server, monitoring incoming email on a continuous basis. Maybe this is because e?mail creates its own sense of urgency, but most of the communications are not all that urgent. I respond to them a couple of times per day.4.Deal with it. As you open each e?mail do one of the following:a.If it requires a quick response, respond to it and delete it.b.If it requires a response but is not the best use of your time, try to find someone else to do it.c.If it is going to take any serious amount of time to respond, schedule it for action in your Day Planner and then download the message, save it, or print it out for future action.I personally receive approximately 250 e?mails per day and by practicing the suggestions above, I can handle that volume in about an hour, taking advantage of this fantastic tool but not being controlled by it to the distraction(分心)of more important tasks in my day.For the important communications, the writer suggests that you .

Passage TwoThe great advance in rocker theory 40 years ago shows that liquid-fuel rockets were far superior in every respect to the skyrocket with its weak solid fuel. However, during the decade, large solid-fuel rockets with solid fuels about as powerful as liquid fuels have made their appearance, and it is a favorite layman s question to 19 inquire which one is better. The question is meaningless. One might as well ask whether a gasoline or a diesel engine is better. It all depends on the purpose, a liquid-fuel rocket is complicated, but has the advantage that it can be controlled beautifully. The burning of the rocket engine can be stopped completely: it can be reignited when desired. In addition, the thrust can be made to vary by adjusting the speed of the fuel pumps. A solid-fuel rocket, on the other hand, is rather simple in construction, though hard to build when a really at very short notice. A liquid-fuel rocket has to be fueled first and cannot be held in readiness for very long after it has been fueled. (82)However, once a solid-fuel rocket has been ignited, it will keep burning. It cannot be stopped and reignited whenever desired and its thrust cannot be varied. Because a solid-fuel rocket can be kept ready for a long time, most military employ solid fuels, but manned space-flight needs the fine adjustments that can only be provided by liquid fuels. It may be added that a liquid-fuel rocket is an expensive device; a large solid-fuel rocket is, by comparison, cheap. But the solid fuel, pound per pound, costs about 10 times as much as the liquid fuel. So you have, on the one hand, an expensive rocket with a cheap fuel and on the other hand a comparatively cheap rocket with an expensive fuel. The most important consideration for manned space flight is that the rocket be_____.
